YHTL Weekly Highlights – 24 to 30 April 2017
Well, well, well. If it isn’t that time of the week again where we look back at the week that was and reflect on all the wonderful things that have happened in the land we like to call YHTL. It’s been a veritable smorgasbord of entertaining funny stuff and no mistake, which makes the task of covering all of it in this highlights package all that more time-consuming rewarding. Just imagine how long these highlights would actually be if we’d remembered to put any dad jokes on the site this week or all the other fun stuff that we would like to have done but didn’t quite manage to squeeze in!
What we did manage to squeeze in though was pretty ace, as you will discover in the fullness of time.
This post actually marks an exciting milestone for us, as it’s our 150th published post. Considering when we started this in November we thought it would only last a couple of weeks before we gave up through lack of interest from readers and contributors to have reached the 150 is really rather spiffing. I’m having an alcoholic beverage to celebrate whilst bashing at the keyboard like an increasingly tired and whiny toddler banging their feet on one of those floor piano mat things. So no change there then.
Whilst I have my trumpet out I might as well blow it a bit by saying we have now had content submitted by 60+ contributors from as far afield as Australia, South Africa, The Cayman Islands, Canada and, um, Reading. It’s all going much better than expected, so a big thank you from me and Fran for reading and contributing so generously. Hugs and handshakes all round methinks.
Anyway, I’m sure I started typing this flow of consciousness for a reason. Oh yes, here we go…
Monday
Regular readers won’t be too surprised to hear that we had another super-duper comedy parenting interview on this here website on Monday. And it was another good one! We had Lisa from Pass The Prosecco… Please in the chair this week and we fired questions at her as if they were going out of fashion. If you haven’t yet caught up with the interview, you may wish to take a few minutes to do so. It’s here. Look.
Tuesday
A brand new contributor today, all the way from an Old House In The Shires. She talked about the highs and lows of raising teenagers, just to give us a little taste of what most of us have got to look forward to in a few years! After reading it, I’m quite happy with my little one being just about to turn 3 as opposed to 13!!
Wednesday
We like doing the occasional review on the website, as long as they are very funny, very parenty and at least mildly useful. Today’s post from the lovely Kirsty had all of these things in spades. Her little ones enjoyed the scientific toys from Wicked Uncle and we all enjoyed reading about them. Everyone’s a winner.
Thursday
We had another stab at our weekly #YHTLchat today and, because we know everyone is very busy, all you had to do this week was to cobble together 5 emojis to represent how your day had been. We actually had quite a few replies. I know – I’m as shocked as you are! Here are the replies we received – and as an extra little bit of fun see if you can guess what the emojis were trying to represent!

Friday
Today we were back to featured post action and it was a lovely bank holiday weekend post from the very lovely Suzanne at andanothertenthings. It was all about what to expect and what to prepare yourself for because, as with most things in life with little ones it’s not always as straightforward as you might hope!
We also shared this video with you. Not much explanation needed really.
Saturday
And so we arrived at today (or yesterday if you want to be pedantic given I’m writing this sentence at 00:24am). Another terrific post, this time about the ever-so-slightly annoying parts about the school run, by The Incidental Parent.
Most Popular Post – April
As today is the last day of April we can also now exclusively reveal our most popular contributor posts of the month. It’s the part you’ve all been waiting for I’m sure. So, in a very particular order, here are our top 3 contributor posts in terms of page views.
This countdown doesn’t include sponsored posts by the way so it’s just things that you lovely folks have sent us out of the goodness of your hearts that are included in the countdown!
I’m. So. Excited.
In third place we have this really rather groovy post from Beta Mummy:
In second place (runner up / first loser) we had this super-duper post from Occupation: (m)other:
But at the top of the pile this month was this excellent post from The Incidental Parent:
You are cordially invited to have this awesome badge in celebration of your achievements!
As you can see, it was another busy week on the website. In the coming week we have another awesome interview, a guide to making money whilst sitting on your arse, a review of Gousto recipe boxes, and lots of brilliant posts from our brilliant contributors.
Here’s to the next 150 posts!!
