It’s that time of year when many people start to turn their attention to planning their next family holiday. After the crazy whirlwind that is Christmas has ended, it’s little wonder that parents across the country are daydreaming of sunshine and relaxation.

Planning your next holiday is the perfect way to beat the January blues, and will give you something to look forward to during the cold and dark days of winter. It is time to turn your thoughts away from woolly jumpers and the kids catching endless colds, to lazy days frolicking in the sunshine. The big decision that you need to make now is just where you should go for your next family break.

Don’t Get Stuck in a Holiday Rut

Do you find that you and your family head off on practically the same holiday year after year? If you are stuck in some kind of holiday groundhog day, you are probably longing to do something different this year. Why not break free from the holiday monotony and spend your time off doing something completely different and new?

If you need some holiday inspiration to spark your family’s travel plans, why not opt for one of these holiday options for this year’s break?

Relax on a Cruise

For the ultimate in relaxation and luxury, you really cannot beat a cruise holiday. Let’s face it; holidays with the kids can be stressful. Keeping them entertained away from home can leave you with very little time to sit back and de-stress. The beauty of a holiday onboard a cruise ship is that there is just so much to do. There are usually some pretty fantastic facilities onboard, such as swimming pools, crazy golf, climbing walls and more. Many cruise ships have plenty of activities to keep the entire family entertained, and some even have creches onboard if you want childcare so that you can enjoy some child-free time during your break.

Taking a cruise can offer you more for your money, as food, most drinks, and the majority of the entertainment are inclusive of the cost of your holiday. This means that you shouldn’t need as much spending money once you arrive on the ship.

A cruise holiday can take you pretty much anywhere in the world; there are so many destinations available. One of the best parts of a cruise holiday is that you experience many different destinations during just one holiday, which is an excellent way for the kids to see more of the world.

It is a good idea to book your cruise through a specialist cruise travel agent such as Bolsover Cruises so that you can receive expert advice when you make your travel plans. Many people find that once they take their first holiday onboard a cruise ship, they cannot wait to book their next one – so this could be the start of a whole new holiday trend for your family.

Get Glamping

Camping has come a long way in recent years. Gone are the days of shivering away under the stars while trying to stop your tent blowing away. Camping has now gone glam, and everyone is doing it!

Right across the UK, you will find glamping spots offering a wide choice of accommodation. From camping pods, through to shepherd’s huts, you will find yourself spoilt for choice when choosing where you will stay.

Don’t forget to check out the reviews of the campsites before you book your stay to make sure that it lives up to its advertising blurb. If you are travelling to the middle of nowhere with the kids, you certainly don’t want to find that the accommodation looks nothing like the website photos and that there are no amenities nearby.

Kids especially, often love the novelty of glamping, especially if you choose quirky accommodation such as a quaint Hobbit-like hut, or a bell tent.

Head off on an Adventure

If you are bored of beach holidays, and yearning for an adventure, then why not book an action-packed holiday for your family? A family adventure holiday is perfect if you and the kids love to try new activities and hate sitting still for too long.

You will find specialist adventure holiday destinations in both the UK and France. At these resorts, you and your family can take on a whole host of challenges. From abseiling to archery, through to sailing and survival skills, you are sure to find activities that will keep you all occupied during your trip.

An adventure holiday is ideal for families that love to try new experiences together, and are happy to challenge themselves. If you are looking for a break where you can unwind and relax, an adventure holiday may not be the best choice for you. However, if you are ready to unleash your sense of adventure, this could be the perfect way to spend your time away from home.

Take a Staycation

If the thought of navigating a flight with the kids is less than appealing, then a staycation is a great option. The UK is packed with fascinating places to visit, so you won’t be short of places to explore. From fossil hunting on the Jurassic Coast, a relaxing break exploring the Lake District, or even a city break in London, Edinburgh or Cardiff, there is a staycation destination in the UK to suit the tastes of every family.

If you are feeling traditional, you could opt for the good old fashioned British seaside holiday – kiss me quick hats are optional! Sit back and relax in your deck chair and watch the kids making sandcastles while you feast on fish and chips and ice creams. Of course, the British weather is nothing if not unpredictable, so make sure that you pack your raincoats and wellies as well as your sunglasses and shorts. It’s a good idea to research some indoor attractions close to where you are staying too so that you can keep the kids occupied even on the rainiest of days.
