Always Looks On The Bright Side Of… Holidays!

Today we launch the first in our series of positive mental attitude articles, designed to help you make the very best of seemingly dire situations.

In our ground-breaking inaugural inspiration-frenzy we look at family holidays and show how a little bit of positivity can turn holidays from hell into holidays that are swell, and that will make your friends well jel.

Problem

The food in the buffet restaurant is luke warm and as samey as a pair of identically-dressed identical twins.

Positive Mindset Solution

  • Your little one can eat it without waiting for it to cool down.
  • Risk of burnt mouth is minimal.
  • Can always pop it in the microwave if you’re super fussy.
  • Lack of variation aids digestion.
  • Will make food taste even better on return home by comparison.

Problem

Hotel unfinished, rooms not ready and health and safety issues everywhere you look.

Positive Mindset Solution

  • Your room not having been built means you can try a different type of room as a fun surprise.
  • Kids love diggers and workmen.
  • Unsafe environment is a great learning ground for little ones – after all, survival of the fittest and all that.
  • Chance of compo.

Problem

Hotel runs out of ice cream / alcohol.

Positive Mindset Solution

  • Excellent news for the diet.
  • Ice cream is bad for kids anyway.
  • Lack of alcohol means you can feel more focused and in the moment.

Problem

Chemicals in pool make your clothes / skin turn purple and hair fall out.

Positive Mindset Solution

  • Purple skin really brings out the colour in your eyes.
  • White swimming clothes are so 2010.
  • Think of the money you’ll save in hair care products.
  • Chance of compo.

Problem

Hotel smells of sewerage / radioactive waste.

Positive Mindset Solution

  • Puts off guests from neighbouring hotels using your facilities.
  • You don’t really notice it after a few days.
  • You might transform into a superhero if you get too close to it.
  • Superpowers are cool.
  • Chance of compo.

Problem

More mosquitos on complex than bikes in Oxford.

Positive Mindset Solution

  • The bites take your mind off the smell.
  • Scratching an itch can feel temporarily pleasant.
  • Always a slim chance you might develop superpowers.
  • Superpowers are cool.

Problem

Resort is 3 hours away from the airport.

Positive Mindset Solution

  • Great chance to take in some scenery, or get some reading done.
  • Given cost of hotel excursions you can pretend the transfer is an excursion and show photos taken through the bus window to friends.

Problem

No Wi-fi and terrible selection of TV channels.

Positive Mindset Solution

  • Great chance to be in the moment with your family.
  • Who doesn’t love 7 straight days of I Spy?!
  • Stops you popping on Facebook – after all your holiday must purely involve laying on a lounger doing absolutely nothing or else you’re doing it wrong.

Problem

Hotel looks like a run down version of a Soviet Union sanitarium.

Positive Mindset Solution

  • It’s a great chance to experience some history.
  • Until time travel is perfected this is as close as you’ll get to experiencing that authentic 1950s communist vibe.
  • Savour every moment, Comrade.

Problem

Kid’s pool has no slides and playground hasn’t been built yet.

Positive Mindset Solution

  • It’s important to keep your little ones grounded.
  • Constant stimulation isn’t good for them.
  • Kids need to deal with boredom – it’s good for their future brain development and will teach them how to deal with life’s little disappointments.
  • Chance of compo.

Problem

Half the resort contract food poisoning

Positive Mindset Solution

  • Exciting chance to lose 9lbs during holiday.
  • Able to spend more time in the comfy beds.
  • Too sick to travel home so might get to stay 3 days longer.
  • Chance of compo.

Problem

Room only cleaned once during stay and sheets not changed at all.

Positive Mindset Solution

  • Extra chance to have a lie in as won’t be disturbed by pesky cleaners.
  • Floors will be less slippery due to lack of cleaning so reduced risk of slips and falls.
  • No need to leave a tip at end of week.

Conclusion

I hope this has given you some useful pointers to make your next holiday seem extra special and will help take your review rating on Trip Advisor from 2 stars to 3 stars.
