From the moment we knew you were coming
Our lives changed forever – everything altered
And as you turned from pea to pineapple
You meant the world to us and that never faltered

Nine months of waiting for you to arrive
As we decorated your nursery and bought all your things
Until one night after midnight near the end of May
You were delivered to us by an Angel’s wings

The first time we saw you our dreams all came true
You were perfect in every way and we were so glad
Even though for some reason we thought you’d be a girl
But as I’m sure you’ve noticed you turned out to be a lad!

The first few weeks were a steep learning curve
With feeding and crying and helping you snooze
Long drives in the car seemed to help do the trick
And our sanity was saved by chocolate, cakes and booze!

With feeds through the night and screams through the day
You certainly knew ways to keep us on our toes
But looking back now it was completely worth it
Because every day our love for you grows

You’re the reason we wake up every morning
The very last thing we think of at night
And whenever you smile at us or do cheeky things
We know we must be doing something right!

We’re so lucky to have you, we hope that you know
You’re everything we wanted and so much more
We can’t wait to see you grow up and flourish
Helping you thrive is what parents are for

So if you read this some day, just know you are loved
Every minute of every day, now and forever
Through the Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter
Wherever life takes you, whatever the weather

We hope we’ve done well as your mum and your dad
And that you like us even half as much as we love you
And just remember that whenever you need us
We’ll be there by your side all the way through
