The biggest thing you can do to keep insomnia at bay is to make sure you are keeping regular sleeping hours, at least as far as possible. Keeping regular hours in this manner is going to mean that you can much more easily drift off to sleep when you need to, which is the problem most people with insomnia have, and it will ensure that the routine helps you to get a deeper sleep too. Prioritize your sleeping hours in whatever way possible, and you will find that you are going to suddenly start getting more and more sleep.

Develop Good Hygiene

Many aspects of your hygiene are going to have an effect on your sleep, so you need to make sure that you are keeping on top of them as well as possible. That means avoiding drinking too much alcohol, avoiding smoking, getting some exercise and having a good diet. It also means that you need to focus on elements of so-called sleep hygiene – such as what you do when you are in bed and what the sleeping environment is like. Focus on getting all of these right, and you should find that you sleep much more.

Relax Before Bed

One thing that can really help is to try and relax a lot before you even get into bed. Perhaps half an hour of deep breathing or meditation will suffice – whatever you feel is going to be necessary in order to ensure that you are going to be able to drift off much more easily. Relaxing before bed is one of the most important things you can do, so make sure that you are doing it every night if you want to improve your sleep. You’ll find it makes an enormous difference in no time.
