How to Make Road Trips a Regular Part of Family Life

Collaborative post

Life can become pretty routine from time to time. We go to work, the kids go to school, and the weekends are filled with chores and obligations. Before we know it, a couple of months have passed by, and there’s been little by way of inspiring fun. While you can’t always jet off somewhere exotic to get your fill of fun, there is something else you can do: take weekend road trips as a family. They’re incredibly fun, they’re inspiring, and they’re easy to organise, too. Below, we take a look at a few ways to make them a regular part of your life.

Do Your Research

If you live in an urban area, then you probably think that the UK is one neverending block of concrete and that nature spots are in short supply. But actually, only 10% of the UK is considered “built up” — that’s all the roads, buildings, homes, everything. So there’s plenty of nature around. No matter where you live, you’ll find that there are a bunch of awesome places to visit within a couple of hours’ drive. And then there are all the quaint villages you can explore, too.

Upgrade the Vehicle

You won’t want to load the family up into the car and go for a long ride if your vehicle isn’t up to scratch. To make trips a regular part of your family’s lifestyle, then take a look at upgrading your vehicle. You can buy great cars on finance by visiting A vehicle that’s fit for purpose won’t just make it practically easier to fit the whole family and your equipment inside; you’ll also find that you’re more eager to go on a road trip when you have a car that you love!

Get the Equipment

We talked about road trips involving stopping through small villages and the like, but when you’ve got a small family, the best, most fun option is to explore the outdoors. Children love it. Adults love it. It’s just more fun. To do this properly, however, you’ll need to have the equipment needed to enjoy the outdoors to the max. Number one priority will be a good tent set up, one that can handle the less than stellar UK weather without incident. Waterproof clothing and hiking boots for the entire family will make the road trips more comfortable, too.

Handling Issues

Road trips will be fundamentally fun, but we can’t pretend that they’re not without incidents. For example, what about when kids get bored in the car? We all know it happens! As such, before setting off, you’ll want to look at the entertainment options in your car. This could be upgrading your infotainment system, or loading your children’s iPads and smartphones with games and videos. And also, let’s not forget those good old car road trip games! You’ll also need to learn how to keep your cool, too. Sometimes, no matter what you do, the children will have a tantrum.
